A picture is worth a thousand words. But for First Lady Melania Trump, a picture is worth much more than that: the mainstream media’s undivided attention and a “trending” status on twitter.
The picture that sparked the media firestorm shows her in the midst of air kissing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the recent G-7 summit in Biarritz, France.
What most saw as a stunning First Lady engaging in a diplomatic greeting with a world leader, the media saw as an opportunity to share their bizarre, adulterous fantasies about her.
Analyzing her “position relative to Trudeau”:
“So she’s hinged away, and if you’ll look at her body position she’s less than I would say 8 inches from Trudeau’s body. She’s out and close up, way inside the intimate zone of space, which is 12 to 14 inches. It’s unusual that she’s not separating out from him to do that kiss. Usually what happens [in a double kiss greeting] is that the woman would arch her pelvis and her chest slightly away. I call it the social arc, because if you’re going to do the kiss you arc the sexual parts of your body away. In a formal setting like this, that is what you would do”
“She’s looking with pleasure — It’s a delight to kiss you. I desire it. Her offering up, the way her neck is arched up, the way her mouth is placed up, the lips are partially pursed for the kiss”
Basically the entire media had a collective Freudian slip.
Part of it can be attributed to Trump Derangement Syndrome: the calculated attempts to turn anything Trump-related into bad press. So-called body language “experts” were rarely used on the Obamas. (note the one time when his demeanor at a State of the Union address was described as exuding “dominance and empathy”.)
Anti-Trump activists including “serious” journalists enjoy fantasizing about the First Lady being unfaithful to her husband; it’s just another way for them to insult the president. This time, by portraying him as a cuckold, as so many anti-Trump folks have personal fantasies of, in addition to many actually being cuckolds.
It’s patently strange how the left finds joy in the prospect of Melania cheating on her husband.
Many Twitter users joined in, popularizing the hashtag “#melanialovestrudeau”:
This isn’t the first time a member of the Trump family has had a picture with Prime Minister Trudeau go viral. In 2017, a picture of Ivanka allegedly “swooning” over him at a White House roundtable discussion prompted a similar response:
If only the media would follow the First Lady’s wishes: “I challenge the press to devote as much time to the lives lost and the potential lives [from opioid addiction] that could be saved by dedicating the same amount of coverage that you do to idle gossip or trivial stories”.
