T he UK Department for Education (DfE)’s statutory guidance on safeguarding says that staff with concerns about a child must alert the school’s safeguarding lead, and if necessary contact social services or the police. Another scenario outlined in Brighton and Hove City Council’s guidance document is parents who contact the school to ask: “My daughter doesn’t want a boy changing next to her, what if he looks at her body?” It explains that in such a case, “it would not be appropriate to remove the trans pupil from the changing rooms”.

Italy’s Matteo Salvini: EU has ‘ruined our country’

The Euroskeptic head of Italy’s League party appeared to strengthen his line against EU opposition to Italy’s tax-cutting budget on Friday. Speaking at an agricultural trade fair in Rome, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said: “The EU said yes to (past) budgets that impoverished Italy and made its situation precarious.” “So I don’t get up in the morning thinking about the judgment that people like Juncker and (EU Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre) Moscovici, who have ruined Europe and Italy, have of the government and of Italy,” Salvini added. ‘I talk to sober people’ On Tuesday, Salvini had threatened to seek damages from Juncker for scaring off investors by attacking Rome’s budget plans , amid some thinly veiled personal remarks levelled at the president.

Italy’s Lega to Introduce Ban on Halal Slaughter

The Italian populist League party, led by firebrand Matteo Salvini, has introduced legislation that would ban ritual halal slaughter, arguing that animals should be respected and protected from suffering. The new laws will end loopholes currently in place in the country’s animal welfare legislation that allows Muslims exemptions for ritual halal slaughter,  Il Giornale reports .
